Is There Really a Difference Between Male and Female Skin?
Yes. There are several differences between the skin of men and women, with men’s tendency to grow facial hair being only the most well-known. For example, a man’s skin may be as much as 25 percent thicker than a woman’s. Men also have more collagen in their skin, so they tend to develop wrinkles at a later age than do women. Their skin also tends to be oilier than that of women, so if a man develops acne, it tends to last longer than in a woman. Men also produce more sweat than women do.
Consequently, while men and women can undergo many of the same skin care treatments, we do have to consider our client’s gender when preparing or administering the treatment.
What is the MicroLaserPeel?
The MicroLaserPeel is a technology made by the company Sciton. Dermatologists use it in laser skin resurfacing treatments. It is particularly effective in erasing or reducing acne scars, wrinkles and age spots. The laser removes the topmost layers of damaged to reveal healthy and pristine skin, and it also stimulates collagen production. The laser is also “tunable” or adjustable, so our doctors can control how deeply it penetrates and how hot it gets. Sciton lasers, in general, can be safely used on more skin types than others. Reddened skin is the most common side effect.
A MicroLaserPeel treatment is sometimes called a weekend treatment because it only takes two to four days for the skin can return to its normal color. Our client can thus have their skin resurfaced on Friday and return to work on Monday looking rejuvenated.
A typical laser skin resurfacing treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes. The face and the neck are the most common treatment sites, but some clients get their chest and/or hands resurfaced. Most patients need two to four sessions to get the desired results. Our doctors will apply a topical anesthetic beforehand to keep the patient comfortable.
